Garan was born on Corellia, a son of Yaran and Kirta. His father worked for the Nefferus cruise company as a captain for their pleasure cruisers, and the combination of good pay and relative safety provided a sound and enjoyable upbringing for young Garan.

While his father was usually away during his younger years, Garan remained on Corellia whilst his mother worked at a local academy in Coronet as a computer systems instructor.

After completing his initial education, Garan had equipped himself with considerable computer skills due mainly to his mother's tutorage, as well as a sound educational base.

Although discouraged by his mother, he also learnt other 'extracurricular' skills such as how

With some of the credits he had made he planned to move to the next step; droid design and manufacture.

It was at this point that news of his mothers death reached him. A rebel group had attempted to liberate one of the ships at the starport, but had been foiled by imperial forces.

The rebels took the ship up but shots from the imperials had knocked out its thruster controls and it had come down on the local acadamy killing his mother along with a large number of others. Garan didn't blame either side, it was an unfortnate event but it did alienate him from the rebels and their tactics.

Once the funeral was over, his father left again for the stars and Garan tagged along wanting to be free of Corellia for a while, serving temporarily as ships mechanic for a few years.

During this time he got to see other planets and cultures whilst learning basic skills from his father in astronavigation and starship piloting. Since the ships he worked on were pleasure cruisers, the ability to test and develop his skills quickly faded and the monotony of routine set in.

It was at this point that he returned to Corellia to make a new life for himself and continue his business, and after considerable travelling he encountered a fledgling town known as Aartan Ridge.

It was here that he set to work with the the renewed purpose of building a community together with the misfits around him. The rest as they say is history...

to handle a blaster with help from the sort of friends his mother didn't approve of. It was at this point that he took on an apprenticeship at one of the local starports as a sytems mechanic, a position he had managed to get with help from his father.

Whilst he showed aptitude at repairing and construction he became disillusioned as he saw that his skills were being wasted - his tutor was certainly apt as his job, but always hesitated to give Garan more important tasks, preferring to do them himself, and official work had dropped since the empire had taken over the shipyards and brought in their own men.

Once Garan felt he had learnt as much as he was likely to he left the apprenticeship and moved on to

work freelance. Since he hadn't created a reputation for himself and was working without the backing of a corporation or the empire, work was hard to come by. The work he did manage to find however was usually rewarding. The sort of cutomers who would take on Garan, aside from forcing him to show his blaster skills from time to time, usually had extensive damage to their starships, speeders and other mechanics and it was lucky that Garan was able to get hold of components through the contacts he had made while working his apprenticeship.

It was while working freelance that Garan discovered his true skill; Droids. Using a combination of his mechanical repair and computer system skills, droid repair was easy for him, indeed when repairing droids he would reguarly 'tweak' them to get improved performance -
